When you decide to get a new dog, it’s great that your family feels ready for it. However, the dog may not feel as ready.

It can be a big change for a dog to be suddenly in your house, let alone surrounded by your family. This is especially true if that family includes small children or other pets.

One good way to make your dog feel at home is to separate one room off so that they have a private space. You should put something comfortable to sleep on, something to drink, and something to eat in there so they feel safe and supported.

As soon as they get home, let the dog have a look around this room by themselves. You shouldn’t stop them unless they are doing something dangerous or bad to you or your house. Your new pet should become familiar with this room as quickly as possible.

After the dog seems comfortable, you can bring in more family members. Just warn children to let the dog come to them, rather than them crowding the dog. The dog should find everyone less threatening if they sit quietly on the floor so that they are at the dog’s level.

As soon as you are all relaxed, especially the dog, you can take it to look through the other rooms in your house. The best way is to do this slowly, room by room so you can keep an eye on the dog.

Dogs act like people in new place, and it will take time, just like a person, to get used to your house. IT is best to let the dog do this at its own pace.

Learn from how the dog acts and what it does. That information can help you to make them even more comfortable, as time goes on.
